Art Tom’s record of service to the residents of the Sunset and the city of San Francisco spans three decades. A native San Franciscan, he has led numerous projects to improve our parks, schools, and our neighborhood.
Art is committed to increasing public safety, improving the quality of life for residents, and creating a vibrant community where families can live, work, and play. To address home and auto break-ins, assaults, and suspected human trafficking, Art founded a SAFE neighborhood watch group that increased awareness about neighborhood safety, helped prevent crime and closed down area brothels. After one of our neighborhood playgrounds had fallen deep into an unsafe and unclean state of disrepair, Art founded The Friends of West Sunset Playground, which procured more than $1.5 million to rebuild the playground and surrounding area into a thriving community center. For the last decade, Art’s family has continued to run the children’s section of the Sunset Community Festival.
Art is no stranger to San Francisco politics and is adept at working with City Hall, having served on a number of City Commissions that directly impact the quality of life for all San Franciscans. As a member of the Immigrant Rights Commission, Art advised the Mayor and Board of Supervisors on issues and policies related to immigrants who live or work in San Francisco. As a member of the Tax Assessment Appeals Board, Art settled disputes between the City and small property owners about real estate and personal property taxes. While serving on the Taxi Commission, Art enacted policies to ensure that privately owned transportation services that served the public were prompt, safe, honest, efficient, and courteous for all residents and visitors of San Francisco. As a CPA and UC Berkeley Business School graduate, Art uses his financial expertise for his current job with the city helping to collect millions of tax dollars to pay for much needed city services.
Art is committed to preserving our Sunset neighborhood appeal. On his days off, he can be seen planting trees, picking up trash and participating in the many cultural and community events in the Sunset. Art shares his love for the City by giving his experience and knowledge to help all of us to make our neighborhoods a great place for all families and residents to grow and thrive.
As the father of two daughters in our public school system, Art and his entire family, serve as active volunteers of Lawton Alternative School. He and his wife, Michelle (a Sunset native), are proud to call the Sunset their home.
Now more than ever, we need Art at City Hall to help us create better solutions to tackle the problems that face all of us as San Franciscans – crime, housing, local businesses, transportation, and spending our tax dollars wisely – we need to elect Art Tom to the Board of Supervisors. Art’s goal is to represent you. He is always available to speak directly with you, understand your concerns, and help improve our community. Email Art@arthurtom.com if you would like to discuss any Sunset Community issue or would like to help in his effort to ensure that the Sunset remains a clean, safe, vibrant neighborhood.
Representing you -- “Art of the Sunset”.
